There are many things you can't do on a standard Explorer window, which is not an issue for regular users, but a different matter for experts. BoarderZone FileBrowser lets you get around these limitations. Its aim is not to replace Windows Explorer, but to give you a better control over your files, especially when it comes to uncommon file types. The basic tools it comes with allow you to edit in HEX and ASCII and perform other advanced operations. What's more, the software provides support for numerous custom plug-ins, so there are virtually no limits to what you can do with it.

BoarderZone FileBrowser is distributed as a free and open source application. Its components com in a ZIP archive, so you only need to extract them and run an executable. The application is developed in Java, which makes it compatible with any operating system that supports this language, including Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.

The software places a blank user interface at your disposal, on which you can bring up browser windows, consoles and other tools. You can resize and arrange them however you want, withing the main interface and you can even find a series of options for placing your windows in certain layouts.

File browsers show your local folders in a tree structure and you can also find their contents on the same panel. Additionally, the browsers show a set of basic details about selected files, like type, paths, size and others. The software lets you perform various actions with your files. Besides viewing and editing them, you can also open your files with a built-in HEX editor, FileTime editor, Disk editor or other tools. As previously mentioned, BoarderZone FileBrowser's functionality can be expanded through plug-ins, so you are not limited to this small number of editors.

There are various features to explore on the software's interface. Some of them are placed on a toolbar for easy access. You can use them to bring up a console, configure variable values, view clipboard contents and you can also find a few screen tools, like a ruler or a magnifying glass.

When it comes to manipulating files, BoarderZone FileBrowser can provide you with much more than any basic Windows tool.

Pros

The software lets you arrange file browsers, consoles and other tools on its interface. It provides you with advanced editors. Also, its functionality can be expanded through plug-ins.

Cons

The user interface is not very responsive on certain systems.
